# Groups and default payload

| Method and path                                       | Scope         | Notes                         |
| ----------------------------------------------------- | ------------- | ----------------------------- |
| GET /projects/{project\_id}/key-groups                | groups:read   | Paginated; project ETag       |
| POST /projects/{project\_id}/key-groups               | groups:write  | 201; required Idempotency-Key |
| GET /projects/{project\_id}/key-groups/{group\_id}    | groups:read   | Group plus project ETag       |
| PATCH /projects/{project\_id}/key-groups/{group\_id}  | groups:write  | Required project If-Match     |
| DELETE /projects/{project\_id}/key-groups/{group\_id} | groups:write  | Required project If-Match     |
| PUT /projects/{project\_id}/default-payload           | loaders:write | Required project If-Match     |

Group reads accept the group-read capabilities listed in Scopes. Writes require manage\_key\_groups; default payload requires manage\_loaders. Configuration body limit: 64 KiB.

Create requires name. Optional color is six-digit hex/null; payload\_loader\_id is same-project UUID/null. Name is sanitized to 1–30 characters. PATCH accepts a nonempty subset of the same fields. Both return id, project\_id, name, color, payload\_loader\_id, created\_at.

Delete accepts empty input/{} and returns affected\_count. It preserves keys as ungrouped and detaches package mappings. PATCH/delete accept optional idempotency keys.

Default payload body: `{"payload_loader_id":"LOADER-UUID"}`, or null to clear. It returns the saved assignment and new project ETag. Optional idempotency key. Selecting a payload doesn't publish new source.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://vampauth.gitbook.io/vampauth-docs/api-reference/management/groups.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
